EFFECTS OF HIGH ALTITUDE
Situated above 9,600 feet, the altitude in breckenridge can affect anyone from lower elevations. Adverse symptoms may include headaches, nausea, loss of appetite, restless sleep, coughing and difficulty in breathing. If symptoms persist, seek medical attention.
Avoid alchohol consumption for the first 24 hours of your stay and limit alchohol, caffine, and salty food while at altitude. They rob the body of nutrients.
Drink 3 to 4 times more water than usual, no joke. Your body uses and loses a great deal of fluid up here and you need to stay hydrated. The higher you go, the more water you should drink.
Eat carbohydrate rich meals and limit fat and protein for the first few days at altitude. Your body is working harder at high elevation even when resting. Give it good fuel.
Take a break if you are tired. Listen to your body. Give yourself time to acclimate to the cold, dry, intense climate here.
Don’t push the limits of your physical capabilities. Your body is already working hard to acclimatize. Keep in mind, health issues may be exacerbated by the altitude, as well.
