Breckenridge Ski Vacation Preparation

6 Important Steps

Your dream ski vacation is fast approaching. Your mind is wandering toward fast laps off the highest chairlift in North America, carving turns on perfectly groomed runs and finding a little relaxation at the end of the day. Now it’s time to prepare for what’s to come. Here are our top 6 tips to ensure an amazing mountain getaway.

Reserve Ski Equipment

With pre-packaged rentals for kids, beginners, intermediate and advanced skiers, local rental shops provides a one-stop shop for everyone. Click here to see our list of preferred rental shops that offer our guests a discount!

Get the Right Gear

Layering. Temperatures vary dramatically in Breckenridge throughout the season and over the course of any given day. Remember that there is about a 3,000 foot elevation difference between town and the top of the Imperial Chair; which can often equate to a temperature difference of anywhere between 15-40 degrees Fahrenheit depending on the day. We recommend a 3-in-1 jacket with a removable liner and an outer shell so that you can remove layers as needed. Also, pick up some lightly insulated, waterproof ski pants. For a base layer, long underwear is a must-have. Look for a thin wool-blend piece that will wick moisture and keep warmth in. Remember, gear doesn’t have to be expensive and name-brand, but it does have to be warm!

Accessorize:

Essential accessories include a few pairs of thin to medium ski socks, a neck gator, a pair of insulated waterproof gloves and goggles. Goggles are critical for making it down the hill. Not only do they protect you from the wind and snow, they’ll protect your eyes from the harsh UV rays that you encounter at this elevation. Check out Buff – this is a cool accessory that can be worn 12 different ways, so you can find your own style.

Ski Smart and Get to Know the Mountain

A lesson is a great way to freshen up on skills or to make new friends. Another benefit of taking a lesson is skipping the lift lines to find the powder stashes before the crowds do! Lessons can fill-up quickly – click here to reserve your spot.

Stretch It Out Après Ski

Join a yoga class at our local studio Meta Yoga. They offer 6-10 classes per day beginning at 6:30 a.m. Stretching should be done daily when completing strenuous physical activity.
