While it’s certainly not hard to find something fun to do while visiting, it’s always helpful to have a few Breckenridge inside tips from the locals. Make the most out of your stay, beat the altitude and enjoy some of our favorite powder runs, restaurants and more…
Locals Tips For Your Breckenridge Trip
Prepare for the altitude
Altitude sickness is the real deal. And it’s the worst. Try to avoid the altitude effects before arriving to Breckenridge by drinking more water and electrolytes than usual. Once you’ve arrived, make sure to pick up some Boost Oxygen canisters. Short of breath? These personal lifesavers provide all-natural and beneficial supplemental oxygen immediate to anyone, anytime, anywhere. You can find them at City Market right downtown and at other retailers.
4WD + snow tires, please
If you’re planning on driving from the Denver International Airport or elsewhere, this tip is a must. Be safe! If you’re traveling in the winter, you have to have a vehicle that is equipped with 4WD/AWD and snow tires. I70 is known to be very moody in the winters, particularly as you approach Loveland Pass and the Eisenhower Tunnel. No matter the season, it is always a good idea to have a 4WD capable vehicle with snow tires when driving in Colorado. Breckenridge road conditions are ever-changing and having these features on your car is great way to ensure safety on the roads. Book your activities in advance
If you’re planning on skiing, the sooner you get your pass, the better! Multi-day passes are always cheaper than single-day lift tickets. So, if you’re coming for a week, check out the Epic 4-Day or Epic 7-Day pass. And if you or your family is new to skiing or snowboarding, the mountain offers child, adult and private lessons.
Looking for activities off the slopes? Reserve your spot in advance for dog sledding, snowmobiling, snow tubing and more! On a powder day, the line for the T-Bar or Imperial on Peak 8 can stack up even before they’ve opened. Local’s secret: hit the easy-access goods instead of waiting in line. The runs right under the Colorado and Rocky Mountain Super Chairs, like Little Johnny’s, have powder stashes all along the sides. Check out our favorite ski and snowboard runs for any leve, too!
The BEST Après IN Breck
Nothing’s more classic Colorado than a cold pour of craft beer after a day on the slopes. Swing over to Après, the aptly named tap house on Main Street, for a post-ski beer. They’ve got dozens of craft beers on tap, many of them Colorado local. Looking for other sorts of libations? Check out our full guide to après-ski.
